SWAP 2007 - Part Twelve

Final Post!

Here we are at the final post and time to show you the final pictures. Wait. Don't scroll down yet. Resist the temptation. I have a confession that has to do with the surprise twist. I didn't make just one SWAP. I made two, two identical SWAPs. I made one for my daughter, but I made another one, identical to hers (right down to the necklace) for her American Girl dolls. Here's the doll SWAP:

Here's my daughter's SWAP:

I made all of the pieces for the doll SWAP by modifying pieces from Butterick 5604 to match each of my daughter pieces. I worked that pattern pretty hard.

Here are some detail shots of the doll's clothes:

Now, for the final shots of my daughter and her dolls. Notice in each picture that no one is wearing the exact same outfit. It took a little doing, but there are 16 different outfits among the four photos.

Parting Shot: Today was our last school ski day, so here's my son, hanging out in front of the fire, eating lunch.

Tonight I have to work on a fixing a comforter for a customer and then maybe I can get back to the vest or Easter dress tomorrow. We'll see . . .

*thunk*

That was the sound of my jaw hitting the floor.

Summerset, that is absolutely the cutest thing I've seen in ages. I'd say that puts you in running for Sewing Angel Mom of the Year...oh, wait, the Little Red Empress already did that...

I want to heap complimentary phrases here, but I'm speechless.

too cool!

Very cool! I made my niece some matching outfits for herself plus doll (she liked the doll outfits way more LOL) but never a whole SWAP, that is very cool!

You are amazing! Your energy and drive is inspiring. I don't know what else to say - like others I am speechless. Lucky daughter! If this doesn't make her want to follow in your sewing footsteps nothing will.

As my daughter would say - You are the best Mom in the whole universe! - She thinks big. How cute, cute, cute. They are absolutely adorable. My daughter is 17 now, so this idea would be met with that look she gives me that says I love you, but I am too old for this. It is wonderful that you could create this very special memory for your daughter, she will remember this forever!

Thank you everyone for your kind compliments! My daughter is very happy with her new wardrobe, and the dolls are, too. I enjoy making things for her and it was fun to actually plan it with her. The look on her face when she'd come home from school and see what I'd made that day was neat, too.

Summerset, I am amazed and inspired. My daughter is 4 and would love it if I would do something like this for her and her doll! I'd been thinking about making one matching outfit for them - you have really inspired me to think outside the square! Congratulations!

Jane - She knew about the doll SWAP - she was very excited about it and in fact they're dressed in SWAP clothes right now.

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone; you daughter looks eerily similar to my daughter (8 yr old goofiness, bobbed hair, glasses, kitty cat & all!). I have been thinking about doing a summer SWAP for her since I first found the article last year. It was so much fun to see your pics. Congrats on your 3rd place finish and thanks for sharing your work!

Awesome job mom! Although, you're really making the rest of us look like slackers - LOL. I think my favorite outfit is the green capris with the blue/green top. How was adjusting the pattern?
